We are happy to share the successful completion of “Siragugal”, a collaborative initiative by Koodugal Trust and Maatram Foundation to strengthen and expand our efforts towards House Sparrow conservation. The initiative brought together residents, volunteers, Maatram Alumni Association, and the local community to create safer habitats for House Sparrows at RRG, Neelankarai. More than just installing nest boxes, it was an attempt to bring the tiny House Sparrow back into our everyday dwellings and encourage coexistence between people and birds. As part of the program, the enthusiastic volunteers from Maatram Foundation participated in fabricating nest boxes, carefully creating suitable spaces for nesting, egg-laying, and raising hatchlings. These fabricated nest boxes were subsequently installed at RRG, Neelankarai with the active support of the volunteers and residents, creating additional potential nesting spaces within the residential community. A heartfelt thanks to Sujith Kumar for making this collaboration possible and helping turn the initiative into a meaningful conservation effort. My special thanks to SIVAPRIYA S, who served as an important bridge between Koodugal Trust and Maatram Foundation, bringing both organizations together for this collaboration. Finally, a sincere thank you to all the volunteers who spent their Sunday contributing their time and energy to create a positive impact in society.
